In hockey, the slot is the area of the rink between the face-off circles. There are two types of slots: the low slot is located in front of the goaltender and the two circles, and the high slot is situated in the middle of the ice above the circles. The low slot is a prime place for defensemen to take a shot and is arguably one of the most dangerous areas on the ice.
Modern slots are computer-programmed machines that are more flexible. They are not constrained by the size of the reels, which made some of the earliest machines extremely unattractive.
